New York City!

We just got back from two and a half weeks in New York City. As always combining business with pleasure. A couple of photo assignments, but mostly vactation!
We stayed in a little apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Right in the middle of the neigbourhood we feel in love with during our last visit two years ago. Restaurants, concerthalls, pubs everything just around the corner and in 10 minutes your on Union Square, the heart of Manhattan!

The Fuji X100 was my main camera in the city. A real joy to work with and the ideal camera for street photographer. Everybody thinks you have a little filmcamera and mean no harm ;-)
Of course I used my (t)rusty old A900 for some city scapes but it is such a bulky, heavy camera that I mostly left in our apartment.

New York, New York

We've just got back from a three week work vacation to New York. Shot lot's of concerts, made a reportage about the 9-11 demo that was controversial because of the speech by my 'countryman' Geert Wilders and fell in love with Williamsburg.
We had great summer weather (the photo above was shot during a short thunderstorm that even caused a tornado in Brooklyn!) But the city has changed a lot since we've been there a couple of years ago. Forget about the East Village, Chelsea or even Park Slope in Brooklyn. No,the place to be is Williamsburg, north-Brooklyn. Some may say it's already gone and over the top, but it's the last enclave of the alternative, arty and broke in New York. The rest of the city is one big Disneyland for yuppies and wannabees!
The worst was former CBGB's, it's a damn (too expensive) designer, vintage store. Where you pay 80 dollars for a picture disc of Styx (!!!!).
If you want to see some more photo's, check the travelogue (sorry Dutch only).

6th aniversary... the good & the bad

6 years ago the world was in terror, 9-11. A tragedy for most of the world and another kind of terror for Caro and me. We got married the day after. And our honeymoon was our first visit to the USA. Scary, especially since I have a big fear of flying. The last couple of weeks we were planning our 7th trip to the American continent and we've glad to visit our mutual love again, that has grown on us the last 6 years; the deserts of the South West! Big Sky Country, here we come again... soon....

We never got to see the skyline of New York as it was the day before we got married... But it has a special place in our hearts...
